Time Warp Holland 2010 – A new chapter
„Welcome to The Netherlands, welcome to Amsterdam, welcome to Time Warp
Holland“. With those words the Time Warp team welcomed their guests last
Saturday to the third edition of Time Warp Holland. In spite of adverse weather
conditions, Time Warp fans from all over Europe travelled to The Netherlands to
be part of the premiere of Time Warp Holland at the Dutch capital!
The weather did not make it easy for Time Warp Holland and its guests: due to heavy
snowfall Amsterdam Intl. airport Schiphol experienced large delays and cancellations of
flights from early Saturday onwards and a few hours later the public transport system
also stopped their services. However, this did not discourage 9.000 visitors from all over
Europe to travel to Sporthallen–Zuid, to celebrate the third anniversary of Time Warp on
Dutch ground. “The weather did proof to be a challenge, especially when it came to the
logistics of the travel arrangements. Many DJs and suppliers have been affected by the
cancellation of the flights.” Apart from those circumstances we are very satisfied with the
festival. The Sporthallen–Zuid definitely met our expectations and have been the perfect
background and atmosphere for Sven, Laurent and Co. A big “thank you” goes out to all
our guests who travelled from all over Europe to Amsterdam despite challenging weather
conditions, as well as the artists who had to put up with travel times, lasting for hours, to
play their gig.” says marketing director Robin Ebinger at the end of the festival.
Also Frenk Wiersma from the Dutch partner agency Evotions was more than satisfied:
“We are very happy that the third edition of Time Warp was a success. When Cosmopop
approached us more than three years ago to work with them on launching Time Warp in
Holland, we never could expect it would grow within three years into the largest indoor
technoparty in our country. Although both our companies have their differences in culture
and background the motivation to make Time Warp so successful over here was equally
shared. We are very proud to participate in this huge project. Time Warp Holland is
happening because we find each other in the love for what we both do which is to give
the people the very best time possible. It started very small in Rotterdam, is now large in
Amsterdam and be assured the best is yet to come!"
The main reason for the trip to Amsterdam in 2010 remained the electronic music. And
this started at 8pm on schedule with the sets of Dutch underground champion Darko
Esser, followed by fellow countryman Daniel Sanchez. Shortly afterwards “Moon Harbour”
– Boss Matthias Tanzmann started his set and with his groovy mix he ensured the first
musical highlight of the evening, but there were more to follow. With Dixon, Steve
Rachmad and Sandwell District three high-class acts played afterwards.
Latest during the first changeover also the last guest discovered another novelty: as
common at Dutch festivals, a presenter, which triggered frenetic enthusiasm, announced
the DJs at the main stage. Especially in regards to the Dutch Newcomer Egbert the
cheers were overwhelming.
At the stroke of midnight the weather conditions became noticeable as Marco Carola
started his set at 12am to cover for Sven Väth who was at this time still stuck in the
plane. But shortly after the first track this small rearrangement was forgotten because as
usual, the Italian knew how to impress with an absolute perfect arranged set.
Finally at 02.30am DJ-godfather Sven Väth played the first record over the massive
sound system. With a fraction of an inch the gig of the Time Warp legend was about to
be cancelled as Väth did arrive from Spain and not only he was delayed because of the
bad weather conditions also the air traffic controllers where on strike. As soon as he
started to play his energetic set everyone was feeling the famous Time Warp feeling.
Also on the other floors the atmosphere was amazing as one is used from Time Warp
events. At 02.00am the long awaited live-act Planetary Assault Systems, which is the
long missing alter ego of techno legend Luke Slater, started to play. At the third floor, at
the same time Time Warp routinier Karotte was rocking the crowd with his groovy tribal
set. The next highlight came directly thereafter with Laurent Garnier´s Live Booth
Sessions, L.B.S. Directed by Laurent, Scan X and Benjamin Ripperton live –and DJ
elements fused together to a coherent and hypnotic 4-hour-set.
While L.B.S. brought the spectators into a fantastic world of mysterious sounds, powerful
sound waves and jazzy improvisations, it got loud on floor 2, as with Speedy J, the
famous Dutch export par excellence was at the deck, followed by his “Collabs 3000”
partner Chris Liebing. Meanwhile, at the main floor Loco Dice was rocking the crowd with
his powerful set and he was also preparing the final tunes of Time Warp Holland 2010.
But anyone thinking this final beat marked the end of the third edition of Time Warp
Holland was wrong. Directly afterwards the guests had the chance to party on at one of
the official after hours at Studio 80, AIR and Westerunie.
